When the students in class 3-E start showing signs of self-esteem, the faculty tries to wear them down again, and a class trip goes wrong when two 3-E girls are abducted. - (Baker & Taylor)

What does a pathetic class of misfits have in their arsenal to combat their schoolteacher’s alien technology, bizarre powers and...tentacles?!

Ever caught yourself screaming, “I could just kill that teacher”?

What would it take to justify such antisocial behavior and weeks of detention? Especially if he’s the best teacher you’ve ever had? Giving you an “F” on a quiz? Mispronouncing your name during roll call...again? How about blowing up the moon and threatening to do the same to Mother Earth—unless you take him out first?! Plus a reward of a cool 100 million from the Ministry of Defense!

Okay, now that you’re committed... How are you going to pull this off? What does your pathetic class of misfits have in their arsenal to combat Teach’s alien technology, bizarre powers and...tentacles?!

A sexy new teacher comes to Class 3-E to do the students’ job for them. When the 3-E students begin exhibiting signs of self-esteem, Principal Asano demands that Koro Sensei crush their spirits so they continue to set a bad example for the rest of the school to rise above. Then a class field trip goes terribly wrong when two 3-E girls are abducted. Who will come to their rescue…? - (Simon and Schuster)

Publishers Weekly Reviews

Students left behind by the world have been tasked with assassinating their teacher, Kuro-sensei, an all-powerful alien who blew up part of the Moon and is planning to do the same to the Earth in a year. Kuro-sensei, an uncomfortably noodly creature, has challenged his students (and the rest of Earth) to kill him, and yet he continues to hang around to give them every opportunity to knock him off—while teaching them to be better in every aspect of their lives, including their studies. In this volume, the alien's motivations are hinted at as he educates a femme fatale assassin brought in from Russia to assist the class's efforts. Clean linework and simple backgrounds leave room for underlying messages, while occasionally becoming more complicated for action sequences. As the first of Matsui's (Demon Detective Neuro Nogami) work to be translated into English, Assassination Classroom grows on the reader as an unusual presentation of political satire and social justice, and has useful things to say about meeting challenges through high expectations. (Feb.)
